Nursery Update and DIY Projects

We pretty much have the nursery complete at this point.  There are a few last minute touches that we still have to add, but they are all decoration related.  If our little guy were to come now, the room would definitely be liveable!  But, I will hold off on the true nursery reveal until all the final touches are done.

All of the bead board, chair rail, and baseboards are done, all of the shelves are hung, and all of the furniture is in place.  So I wanted to share some pictures of a few of the details of the room.

The plate was signed by guests at one of my showers

A portion of our cloth diaper stash
I also worked on a couple of DIY projects over the weekend.  Our nursery theme is airplanes and maps.  And while we had a lot of airplane themed elements, we were a little lacking on the maps.  So, what I decided to do was take my old lamp that was mine when I was a baby and re-use it.

The lamp used to be a mauve-y pink color with a plain white shade.  So I spray painted the base white, and then put a coat of Mod Podge Spray  clear coat on it to give it a shiny finish.  Then I took the shade and cut up some regular old maps (the kind you get from AAA).  I used Mod Podge for Paper and a foam brush.  And basically ended up with a patchwork feel.  Then I used  Mod Podge Matte-Antique to brush over the top to give it a little bit more of an antique feel rather than the bright white.

I also did something similar with some wooden letters.  The only difference with the letters was that I used whole pieces of map to cover the letter instead of cutting up smaller pieces.  But you could really do either way.  I purchased some white wood 9" letters from Hobby Lobby.  I Mod Podged the map to the letter, let it dry, and then used an exacto knife to trim off the excess paper.  Then, again I coated the top with the antique finish.  Since we are not revealing the little guy's name yet, I took some ambiguous letter pictures :)

Once he is born, these will be hung!  We hope to get the remainder of the decorations done this weekend, and then I can do a full nursery reveal!!

37 Weeks - Full Term!

I made it to 37 weeks yesterday.  It's a pretty exciting milestone in my opinion.  My mind has now shifted from "It's getting close" to "It could be any time now".  On the one hand its very exciting to think that we could meet our little guy any day now.  And on the other hand I have a feeling these next few weeks are going to go by very slowly because of the anticipation!  Here are the stats for the week:

How far along? 37 weeks.
Baby size? About 19 inches long and weighs about 6.3 pounds
What's going on with the baby? Baby boy is now considered full term. If I went into labor now, his lungs will likely be mature enough to fully adjust to life outside the womb.  He is still moving around a lot, but is definitely running out of space very quickly!  The doctor checked and he is head down (yay!) but as of Monday he had not dropped yet.
Total weight gain/loss: Right around 32 pounds total.
Maternity clothes? Yep, 98% maternity clothes now.  Other than the few large size t-shirts of John's that still fit on the weekend.  As for jeans and work clothes though, its all maternity.
Stretch marks? None yet. I'm use Palmer's Cocoa butter massage cream for stretch marks after showers. Swelling has started though, which is affecting my ankles and fingers :(
Sleep: I wake up a lot during the night (every time I turn over).  I'm having to go to the bathroom more often.  And I wake up with pain in my right hip most nights.
Best moment this week: Getting to full term with a healthy baby boy!
Awkward moment this week:Having the lady making my sandwich at Subway tell me that I looked tired.
Miss anything? Sleeping on my stomach, Diet Dr. Pepper, and sushi from Mikuni
Movement: He is super active now.  I feel movement pretty much through out the day.  The movements are getting stronger, and we can see little body parts as he shifts positions, he makes my whole belly shift!
Food cravings: Apple juice has been the only out of the ordinary thing.
Anything making you queasy or sick? Nope, not anymore
Have you started to show yet? Definitely!  Getting to the point where people are surprised I'm still at work
Gender prediction: Boy!
Labor signs: Nope.
Belly button in or out? I'm not sure it qualifies as either.  It's pretty much flush with the rest of my belly.  It changes slightly depending on where those little baby body parts are
Wedding rings on or off? Engagement ring is on, wedding band is off :( Boo to swollen fingers
Happy or moody most of the time? Happy/anxious. Definitely getting in to the nesting phase
Looking forward to: Meeting our little guy for the first time :)

Say hello to my basketball baby :)
